An
Orthopaedic Surgeon is a medical doctor trained in the correction or prevention
of deformities or diseases of the musculoskeletal system. Unlike a General Surgeon,
an Orthopaedic Surgeon specializes in the care of the bones, joints, muscles,
spine, nerves, ligaments, tendons and extremities (arms, hands, legs and feet). |

Dr. John A. Azzato
was the first Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon in Brunswick County. He
has been in practice since 1983. He spent 7 years in practice in Wilmington,
NC prior to moving to Southport. Dr. Azzato received his medical degree from
Jefferson Medical University in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his internship
and undergraduate work at Jefferson Medical University and the University
of Illinois Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Azzato also had special training at Dupont
Children's Center.

Dr. Azzato is a member of: AAOS; AMA; NC Medical Society;
Brunswick Medical Society and the American College of Occupational &
Environmental Medicine and is a Board Certified Independent Medical
Examiner. Dr. Azzato is married and has three
children. He has special interest in his community, sponsors and coaches
multiple sports, loves palm trees, gardening, boating and spending time with
his family. Dr. Azzato is also a team physician for our local high school
athletic program. |

Dr.
Michael Marushack
is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon. He completed his undergraduate studies
at Creighton University and received his Medical Degree at the University
of Utah. During his orthopaedic residency he spent two years doing research
in bone metabolism and authored several publications. After completing his
orthopaedic residency at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri he finished
a Sports Medicine Fellowship in Birmingham, Alabama specializing in the treatment of knees, shoulders and
total joint replacements. |

After marrying a local physician, Dr. Marushack moved
to the area in 1999 and is the proud parent of two children.
Dr. Marushack serves as the Vice President of the Brunswick
County Medical Society, Chairman of the Surgical Department at Dosher Hospital
and Team Physician for the local high school athletic program.

Dr. Eric Lescault has joined Orthopaedic Specialists, P.A. in Southport. He is
returning to the U.S. after serving 7 years in the military, practicing
medicine around the world, most recently serving in Iraq. He achieved an undergraduate degree in medical
biology from the University of New England funded by an ROTC scholarship and
completed medical school at the University of New England's prestigious
Osteopathic Medical College funded by a Health Profession scholarship. |

He
then went on to an internship with Walter Reed Army Medical Center in
Washington, D.C. and completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery. He has
received numerous awards and noted achievements from the United States Armed
Forces, his most valued award is his Airborne Award he received in 1991.
Doctor Lescault performs complex
arthroscopic procedures and trauma surgeries. He, his wife and three
children are looking forward to becoming a part of our community. His
special interests include fly fishing and wood carving. |
